Hi, thanks for taking the time to look around. My name is Aminee and  I am a practicing Midwife and Counsellor based in Melbourne. My passion is to help women and their partners through all stages of their parenting journey from pre-conception right up to the early postnatal period. I have over 15 years experience working as a Midwife, providing support to couples in their labour and birth experience and also in the early postnatal period. Over this time one of the most profound things I have noticed is how important it is to be emotionally prepared for this lifechanging experience. The gap in emotional care and support was made even more evident when I had my own two children. I was so elated and in love with them but I was not really prepared for the emotional roller coaster that comes with being pregnant and becoming a parent. At times I felt very lonely and isolated with my thoughts but after reaching out and talking about it I felt I was able to feel more positive about how I was doing. I was able to realise that I am good enough just as I am and that I was doing a good job. I  became a Counsellor so that I could  continue with my passion to help Women and their Partners with any challenges that they may be facing on their own parenting journey.

When I am not supporting families in either a counselling or birthing capacity I am very happy to organise a catch up with friends and have a good laugh and also to spend quality time with my family hanging out or exploring all that Melbourne has to offer. I love to explore a good Op Shop and I really look forward to my coffee in the morning. I do also love a bit of down time and can easily get lost in a good book!

Of course there are a myriad of reasons for seeking help in the Perinatal Period. If I feel that your reasons are beyond my scope of practice I will do my best to try and refer you to a more appropriate source of help.

Being a Counsellor and a Midwife, Aminee has the knowledge of both the physical and emotional journey to parenthood which made her an incredible support. She is an empathetic counsellor who is able to give straightforward and practical information. She helped me untangle my anxieties and encouraged me to get through pregnancy and prepare for the birth.

How can I support you?

Lets face it, pregnancy and parenting is hard work! It's unpredictable, uncertain and at times out of our control. There are so many emotions to come to terms with; happiness, joy, sadness, fear and anxiety just to name a few. You will have good days and not so good days and no amount of googling and scrolling through your social's is going to make it any easier. In fact it will only make you worry more.  

Over time all these thoughts can start to impact not only your emotional wellbeing but your physical health and the health of your pregnancy and parenting journey. Your ability to cope with everyday tasks may also seem like a real struggle at times.

I can provide some comfort for you by listening to your story and work with you to come up with the best tools and strategies to add to your coping tool kit. 

I appreciate that no two people are the same especially when it comes to pregnancy and parenting, therefore I can offer support that is very much tailored to your needs and desires. I will help work with your strengths so that you can learn to focus on what is actually in your control.

You may have suffered the heartbreaking loss of a Pregnancy either through Miscarriage, Termination for medical reasons, Stillbirth or Neonatal death. The grief that you are feeling is so immeasurable and life changing that you just don't know who to turn to. I can help by providing that safe space to sit and listen, acknowledge and validate all that you may be feeling right now.

Whatever your reason for reaching out it is important to remember that there is no shame in seeking help. You are going through a life changing experience that makes you question your own identity, your coping ability and how your relationships will be affected. It is normal to have these thoughts and it does not define you as a person.

 

My Approach

I believe that everyone is the expert in their own lives. Therefore I am not going to tell you what to do; rather I want to walk along side you without judgement and draw on your own strengths to empower you to make meaningful choices that work for you and your family. I believe that with time to work through your thought processes and develop some strategies you will become more resilient and be able to move forward with more clarity and a sense of hope for the future. Even in your darkest times if I can help you to become a little more hopeful and practice self compassion then it will greatly improve your outlook on life and allow you to put one foot in front of the other to keep going and do the best you can.

As well as adopting this Person Centred approach I also can help support you in other modalities as well which include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance Therapy and Behaviour Change.

Useful Information

All appointments run for 60 minutes and can be conducted online via Zoom, over the Telephone or in Person in Melbourne.

Appointment fee's are set at $90

You do not need a referral or Mental health care plan to make an appointment.

At this stage there is no opportunity for a Medicare rebate or rebate from a nominated health fund.

My Aim is to provide you with a safe space that is confidential, free of judgement and inclusive at all times.
